Who, after having communicated to each other their respective Full Powers, and having found them to be in due and proper form, have agreed upon and concluded the following Articles:

ART. I. There shall be between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Free City of Frankfort and its territories, a reciprocal freedom of Commerce.

The Subjets and Citizens of the two Countries respectively, shall have liberty freely and securely to come with their Ships and Cargoes, or with Goods borne by land, or by Inland navigation, to all such places, ports, and rivers, in the respective territories aforesaid, to which other foreigners are or may be permitted to come, and to enter into the same, and to remain and reside in any port or part of the said territories respectively, and to hire and occupy houses and warehouses for the purposes of their commerce, in such manner as is permitted to Merchants of the most favoured Nations, and generally, the Merchants and Traders of each State shall, within the territories of the other, enjoy the most complete protection and

Welche, nach wechselseitiger Mittheilung und nach rdnungsmässigem Richtig befund ihrer Vollmachten, ie nachfolgenden Artikel verabredet und abgeschlosen haben:

ART. I. Es soll fortan zwischen dem vereinigen Königreiche Grossbritannien und Irland, und der reien Stadt Frankfurt und dem Gebiet der letzteren, vechselseitig freier Handelsverkehr Statt finden.

Die beiderseitigen Unterthanen und Bürger sollen las Recht haben, sich frei und sicher mit ihren Schifen und Schiffsladungen, oder mit Frachtgütern zu ande, oder vermittelst Binnen - Schifffahrt an und in ille diejenigen Orte, Häfen und Flüsse in den eben Jenannten beiderseitigen Staaten zu begeben, wohin andere Ausländer zu kommen die Erlaubnifs bereits haben, oder später erhalten werden: auch sollen sie das Recht haben sich an irgend einem Orte oder in irgend einem Hafen der genannten Staatsgebiete aufzuhalten und niederzulassen; desgleichen Häuser_und Waarenniederlagen zum Behuf ihres gegenseitigen Handels dergestalt zu miethen und inne zu haben, als solches den Kaufleuten der begünstigsten Nationen verstattet wird; überhaupt sollen die Kauf- und Handels

ART. II. No higher or other duties shall be imposed on the importation of any articles, goods, wares and merchandize, the growth, produce, or manufacture of the territory of the Republick of Frankfort, or of any other Country, into the United kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, which may be legally imported from the Free City a Frankfort or the territories thereof, than are of shall be payable on the like articles, goods, ware and merchandize imported from any other foreig Country: and reciprocally, no higher or other du ties shall be imposed on the importation of an articles, goods, wares, and merchandize into the Free City of Frankfort, or into it's territories from the territories of His Britannick Majesty in Europe, than are or shall be payable on the like ar ticles, goods, wares, and merchandize, imported from any other foreign Country.

ART. III. No higher or other duties or charges shall be imposed, nor shall any lower drawbacks or bounties be allowed or granted, in the territories of either of the High Contracting Parties, on the exportation of any articles, goods, wares and merchandize, to the territories of the other by sea or land, or by inland navigation, than such as are or shall be payable, or allowed or granted, on the exportation of the like article, goods, wares, and merchandize, to any other foreign Country.

ART. II. Es sollen diejenigen Güter, Waaren und Handels- Artikel, sie seyen das Erzeugnifs des Bodens oder das Produkt des Gewerbfleifses der Republik Frankfurt oder irgend eines andern Landes, welche in das vereinigte Königreich Grofsbritannien und Irland aus der freien Stadt Frankfurt, oder deren Gebiet, sey es zur See, zu Lande oder durch Binnenschifffahrt eingeführt werden, mit keinen höheren oder andern Abgaben als mit denjenigen belegt werden, welche von denselben Gütern, Waaren oder Handelsartikeln, wenn sie aus irgend einem andern fremden Lande eingeführt werden, zu entrichten sind oder seyn werden. Hinwiederum sollen alle diejenigen Güter, Waaren und Handelsartikel, welche in die freie Stadt Frankfurt oder deren Gebiet aus den Besitzungen Seiner Grofsbritannischen Majestät in Europa, sey es zur See, zu Lande, oder durch Binnenschifffahrt eingeführt werden, mit keinen höheren oder anderen Abgaben als mit denjenigen belegt werden, welche von denselben Gütern, Waaren und Handelsartikeln, wenn sie aus irgend einem andern fremden Lande kommen, zu entrichten sind oder seyn werden.

ART. III. Es sollen auf die Ausfuhr irgend eines Handelsartikels, Guts oder Waare, aus dem Gebiete des Einen der Hohen vertragschliefsenden Theile in das Gebiet des Anderen, sie geschehe zur See, zu Lande, oder durch Binnenschifffahrt, von keinem der beiden Theile höhere oder andere Abgaben oder Lasten gelegt, noch bei derselben irgend geringere Rückzölle oder Prämien vergütet oder bewilligt werden, als diejenigen, welche auf die Ausfuhr desselben Artikels in irgend ein anderes auswärtiges Land gelegt sind, oder beziehungsweise bei derselben vergütet oder bewilligt werden.

ART. IV. No prohibition or restriction shall be imposed upon the importation or exportation by sea or land, or by inland navigation, of any articles the growth, produce, or manufacture of the territories of either of the High Contracting Parties, into or from the territories of the other, which shall not equally extend to the like articles the growth, produce, or manufacture of the territories of all other foreign Powers.

'ART. V. All goods, wares, and marchandize, imported into the Free City of Frankfort, or into the territories thereof from the territories of His Britannick Majesty in Europe, shall be admitted into the said Free City and the territories thereof, on paying duties according to the Tariff now in force there; And all goods, wares, and merchandize, imported into the territories of His Britan nick Majesty in Europe, from the said Free City of Frankfort, or the territories thereof, shall be admitted into His Britannick Majesty's said territories on paying duties according to the several Acts of the British. Parliament now in force respecting the Trade and Navigation of the United Kingdom, of which respective Tariffs authenticated Copies have been interchanged between the High Contracting Parties at the time of the execution of this present Convention. The High Contracting Parties mutually reserve to themselves the right to establish all such changes as to them shall seem meet, respecting the mode of estimating and collecting the duties imposed by the said respective Tariffs. Should any such change be hereafter made in the Tariff of duties now payable in the territories of His Britannick Majesty in Europe, as shall have the effect of increasing the amount of the duties payable on the importation of any article into those territories from the Free City of Frankfort, or the territories thereof, the said Free City of Frankfort reserves to itself the right of making such an addition to their before mentioned Tariff as shall countervail and be equal to any

such increase.
