From these Statements, it appears that the Imports during the Year ending on the 30th September, 1828, have amounted to 88,509,824 dollars; of which amount 81,951,319 dollars were imported in American Vessels, and 6,558,505, in Foreign Vessels. That the Exports have, during the same period, amounted to 72,264,686 dollars, of which 50,669,669 dollars were of Domestic, and 21,595,017 dollars of Foreign articles; that, of the Domestic articles, 41,130,106 dollars were exported in American Vessels, and 9,539,563 in Foreign Vessels; and, of the Foreign articles, 19,978,268 dollars were exported in American Vessels, and 1,616,749 dollars in Foreign Vessels. That 868,381 tons of American Shipping entered, and 897,404 cleared from, the Ports of The United States; and that 150,223 tons of Foreign Shipping entered, and 151,030 cleared, during the same period. I have the honour also to state, that the amount of registered Tonnage employed in the Foreign Trade, on the 31st December, 1827, amounted to...... That the enrolled and licensed Tonnage, including 84,278?? employed in the Fisheries, and 40,0903 in Steam Navigation, amounted to......... Permit me further to state, that, in conformity to the 10th Section of the Act above referred to, the articles exported have been valued at their actual cost, or the value they bore at the time of exportation in the several Ports of The United States from which they were exported; and that the articles imported were valued at their actual cost, or the value which they bore in the Foreign Port from whence they were imported into The United States, free of any subsequent charges what ever.
