were of fixty-four guns, they had not, in the whole, more than 400 Europeans fit for duty. While the English ships lay there, a Dutch frigate arrived from the Cape of Good Hope, with the news of admiral Elphinstone being arrived there; but owing to the weak ftate of the Dutch force, our four Indiamen were suffered to depart unmolested. The marquis Cornwallis, with convicts on board for Port Jackson, arrived at St. Helena, on the 20th of October, for refreshments. A ferious mutiny had been difcovered by captain Hogan, the com. mander, a few days before, in which a ferjeant and several of the Botany Bay rangers were the principals. Their objects were to murder the captain and officers, to set the convicts at liberty, and seize the hip. The mutineers were all fecured; the serjeant was immediately severely flogged, and is since dead. DECEMBER 19.
