If any troubles happen to my government, you 1738 are to yielt your affistance in every respect. If any people belonging to my Circar makes his escape to your place, you are not to protect him; on the contrary you fhould deliver him up to me, that I may punish him according to his deferts. With regard to the Pagodas in Carrical etc. villages aforefaid, you are to pay their allowances according to Salabad custom, and take care that their worship, and the celebration of the feaft of Radochevam, may be performed with due refpect; and you are likewife to continue the duties, appropriated for their use, according to the ufual cuftoms. You are not to convert the Bramins houses into those of the Bandaravada or the Soodra caft. As there are several Tanks in the Pagodas, and at the Bramins houses, you must not fuffer the Europeans to go into them. The above are the terms agreed upon; you may therefore enjoy the faid port of Cartical, together with the fort thereof, as alfo the 5 villages as aforefaid, and perform the above articles, and be happy. 2. Whereas yon have hitherto enjoyed the 8 villages which have been sold in the time of Monfieur Demaux for 60,000 Checrams, but as you have now represented to me, that a frequent dispute happens concerning fome of the faid villages, with regard to the watercourse, with the people of my Circar, requesting me at the fame time to receive back three of those villages, and to give you in the room of them some other villages adjacent, answering equally to the revenues of the said three villages; I agree to receive back those three villages, and in the room of them grant you the four villages, and a spot of ground called Padaga, as hereunder written, which being added to the remaining 5 of the former, makes in 1742 number 9 villages, and one Padaga. What you returned back out of the 8 villages, In all three villages. The remaining 5 villages of the former, being as follows: Out of Termaga Magan, at Ambel, Tarcavat Wanjey woor. Out of Ternallar Magan, Narvey and Darmaporam. Out of Carrical Magan, Wooliapetto and Polagam Niny catta. What is now granted in lieu of the the three vil. lages returned back, and equal to their revenues. Out of Arangoly Padagumt, Sumet Adambarupet Polagam, Padaga Wodayore. Out of Nadangad Magan at Tarekvet, Covilpet, Walarmarcad and Kealacufandgody. Out of Cotachery Magan, at Wadacuvet, Taly Tura. These four villages, and one Padaga, being added to the above remaining 5, makes the number 9 villages and one Padaga; which I hereby acknowledge to have been fold for the 60,000 Checrams, mentioned in the former bill of fale. The French fhall not, under any pretence whatsoever, march any troops, either of natives or Europeans, or fend or permit to be fent any artillery or warlike stores of any kind out of the limits of their fettlements through any of the countries dependent on the Nabob's government, without his permission being firft obtained. 3. The French having agreed on their parts inviolably to observe the foregoing articles, and to be fubject to the fame regulations obferved in former times under the government of the Nabobs, his predecessors. The Nabob Serajah Dowlah will confirm them their former privileges in the countries under his government, and on all occafions treat them and their dependents in a friendly manner. 4. But that he may be the better affured of their good faith and intentions, and the ftrict observance of all their engagements, the Nabob requires that his allies the English may become guarantees to him for the true and juft performance of all agreements which shall be entered into.
