Pothier nous apprend que, vers le milieu du dernier siècle une compagnie d'assurances maritimes établie à Pa ris, fut autorisée à assurer les maisons contre les dangers du feu. Plus tard deux arrèts du Conseil du Roi, l'un du 20 août 1786, l'autre du 6 novembre de la mème année, autorisèrent deux autres com pagnies d'assurance contre l'incendie; enfin une société d'assurances sur la vie des hommes fut insti tuée par un autre arrèt du 3 novembre 1787 (a).
