THIRTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT.

GENTLEMEN OF THE BOARD, —

We present, for your information and approbation, a Report of such of our doings since we last met you, as seems to us worthy of record. You will see, at a single glance, that the topics discussed are few; and yet that some of them are of great interest to Boston, to Massachusetts, and, indeed, to New England.

We have endeavored carefully to consider every case presented to us, and to arrive at such conclusions as would promote the best interests of the merchants of Boston, whom we represent.

Thus premising, we proceed to give a brief abstract of our Records, and of the Reports of our Special Committees.

RECIPROCITY TREATY.

Early in the year, we renewed our efforts to prevent the abrogation of the Reciprocity Treaty of June, 1854, by correspondence with Senators and Representatives in Congress, with Chambers of Commerce, and Boards of Trade; and by personal interviews with
