Les lois de la Virginie avaient déjà été imprimées à Londres en 1662, et publiées par FRANCIS MORYSON. Le volume que nous avons continue cette série et LOWNDES' indique en outre des suites imprimées à Williamsburg, 1733, 1769 et 1770.

This volume contains all the acts down to 1715, and is probably called vol. I. in reference to those that might be subsequently passed and printed. The laws of Virginia were printed in London, without date, probably before 1696, as an act passed in that year is mentioned by Trott as not contained in it. RICH

Le marquis de BARBÉ-MARBOIS, né à Metz en 1745, mort en 1837, fut successivement secrétaire de légation et chargé d'affaires en Allemagne, consul aux Etats-Unis, intendant de Saint-Domingue, ministre de France auprès de la diète de l'Empereur : il quitta les affaires pendant la Terreur, devint maire de Metz en 1795, puis membre et président du conseil des anciens. Après le 18 fructidor il fut déporté à Sinnamary. Rappelé en 1800, il entra au conseil d'Etat, fut nommé en 1801 directeur du Trésor, en 1808 président de la Cour des comptes et sénateur en 1813 Sous Louis XVIII les sceaux lui furent confiés. Il se retira des affaires en 1834.

Ce livre ne renferme pas seulement l'histoire de la Floride, mais encore une bonne histoire du Nord du Mexique.
